DELFT; July 16, 2020 - Systems Navigator partners with 21 parties in the Horizon 2020 research program NOVIMOVE. Systems Navigator will develop the simulation & serious gaming models that will be used to validate innovative technical & logistical concepts to strengthen Rhine navigation.
NOVIMOVE’s mission is to resolve inefficiencies in transport by water across the entire inland shipping logistics system between the seaports Rotterdam and Antwerp and Basel. The main goal of this research program is to increase freight shipping by 30% by 2030, compared to 2010. The main focus is on container transport.
NOVIMOVE strategy is to “condense” the logistics system by improving container load factors and by reducing waiting times in seaports, by improved river voyage planning and execution, and by facilitating smooth passages across bridges and locks. The following key themes will be addressed:
· New vessel types that can cope with water level fluctuations;
· Smart navigation by combining satellite information with real-time water level data;
· Smart lock scheduling through coordination with vessels;
· New logistics concepts combined with freight flows to increase load factors.
More information about NOVIMOVE can be found at: https://www.novimove.eu/
The NOVIMOVE consortium is a well-balanced mix of logistics stakeholders, system developers and research organizations involving 21 partners from four EU member states and two associated countries; Mercurius Shipping Group, Port of Switzerland, TU Delft, Elkem, TNO, Systems Navigator, Port of Antwerp, DST, Covadem, Port of Rotterdam, ScandiNAOS AB, Marlo, Van Moer Logistics, Duisburger Hafen AG, Marin, Universiteit Antwerpen, Panteia, Hermess, Imec, Seafar and EICB.
“We are excited to participate in this research program and are looking forward to work together with the other partners in order to investigate efficient ways to improve freight transport by inland shipping.” – stated Rienk Bijlsma, Systems Navigator’s founder & CEO.
