Cannot open SQL connection

Hi

When I try and open Scenatrio Navigator, it gives me an error saying "SN database: Cannot open SQL connectio, due to time out. Applicaiton will be ended"

Then "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
And it doesn't open SN. Do you know what could causing this error.

Hi Sean,

You can test the connection to the database before you log in.
From the log-in screen(see attachment):
  • Choose "change server"
  • From the "change server" form, choose "test connection"

Also, you can try and modify your SQL connection settings. Please take a look at these topics: http://www.systemsnavigator.com/community/viewforum.php?f=16

Please try it and let me know whether you are able to connect to the database

Hi

I tested the connection and it is a success. the server configurations all look OK too. We recently renewed the license on it, could this be a problem?

Which version of Scenario Navigator are you using ?
Do you have more details of the error, maybe screenshots or generated error logs ?
It is unlikely that the problem is related to the renewed license.

I think it's version 3.1. We just upgraded it but the problem was occurring with the old version too.

Thanks for the screenshots Sean, but I still need more information. Can you post the content of the log file ? It is usually located at :
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Systems Navigator\Scenario Navigator\<SN version number>.

Are you sure about the version number? SN 3.1 is an old version, maybe you meant SN 3.3.1 (the most recent version) ?

OK, the version is 3.3.1.27210
Can't see a log file tho.

Let's try a different approach then. I need to check the database, maybe it has some inconsistencies. Can you p.m. or e-mail me a back-up of the "SystemsNavigator" database ?
To do this you need to use the "SQL server management studio express" tool. See attachment.

Hi Jason,

Friday was Sean's last day - I'm our Scenario Navigator guy for the time being, til we get Sean's replacement settled in.
We're still having some issues installing v3.1 of SN, but I'll check this out and get back to you as soon as I can.
